BHUBANESWAR:This case was highly sensitive during the COVID period. The investigation was initially conducted by then IIC Sri Arun Kumar Swain (now ACP, Zone-1, Cuttack UPD) and was later taken over by then IIC, Nayapalli, Sarat Kumar Sahu (now ACP, IB & PRO), treating it as a blind murder case.
Under the guidance of Ex-Commissioner of Police Sri Sudhansu Sarangi, IPS, and Dr. Umasankar Dash, Ex-DCP, Bhubaneswar, a special team comprising ex-IIC Sarat Kumar Sahu, SI Bijaya Barik (Senior) (now IIC, CRRI, Cuttack UPD), SI Bijaya Barik (Junior) (now Inspector, CP Headquarters), and SI Satya Barik (now Inspector, Bhubaneswar UPD) was constituted. By utilising jail-based intelligence inputs along with scientific and digital investigative methods, the team successfully detected the case, arrested the veteran accused Narayan Mahamty and his associate, and secured conviction.
