BHUBANESWAR: The Budget Session of the Odisha Legislative Assembly commenced on Tuesday in Bhubaneswar. It will run in two phases until April 8, 2026.
Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati delivered the customary inaugural address to the joint sitting of the House, marking the formal start of the session.
Key highlights from the Governor’s address include:
He began his speech with “Jai Jagannath”.Odisha is poised to become the growth engine of a Viksit Bharat (Developed India).
The state aims to emerge as a model of prosperity, inclusive progress, and development.
By 2036, when Odisha marks 100 years of its formation, the government is committed to building a prosperous and developed Odisha.
He highlighted strong support from the Central government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, including sanctions for several major projects in the state. The vision includes transforming Odisha into a $500 billion economy by 2036 and a $1.5 trillion economy by 2047.
The session also began with tributes and condolences paid to departed legislators and former members, including ex-Union Minister Kanhu Charan Lenka, Ex Ministers Rajendra Dholkia, former MLA Anata Das, former MLA Karendra Majhi, Ex MLA Rasheswari Panigrahi, Ex MLA Sanchita Mohanty, Ex MLA Jeorge Tirkey and others.
Opposition members from the BJD and Congress staged walkouts, alleging “untruth contents” or inaccuracies in the Governor’s address.
