BHUBANESWAR: Malkangiri used to be the worst affected Maoist District located in the southernmost part of the Odisha that connects its border with Chhattisgarh in the west and Andhra Pradesh in the east. During recent visit of SDG BSF Anti Naxal Operation, Raipur (CG) , DGP Odisha Police and IG BSF Frontier HQs Odisha to Malkangiri, from 4th to 8th Nov 24 emphasized to neutralize Maoist activities and to carry out intensive Anti-Naxal operation in the district.
Resulting that, on 10th November 2024, BSF troops from the Company Operating Base Jantri & SAT team of 177 Bn BSF while carrying out intensive search operation in own area and recovered a Maoist Dump near connecting road axis of village Aralipada and Taber under GP Jantri, PS limits of Jodambo, Malkangiri.
This region has been a known Maoist stronghold for over a decade, where Maoist cadres and their sympathizers have used the area for shelter and sustenance. These groups have historically planted IEDs, stored bomb-making materials, and concealed arms in isolated locations to target Security Forces (SFs) and police personnel operating in the region.
The BSF is actively conducting operations in Malkangiri district, maintaining a strong presence and bolstering the sense of security among local residents. The recovery of the Maoist Dump will likely demoralize Maoist sympathizers still active in the area, while also encouraging the Security Forces to intensify their efforts. Following this discovery, further combing and search operations are underway in the region.
