BHUBANESWAR: City sanitation being a community driven process is proving quality bi -product Mo Khata (city compost). Increased sale of the product provides impetus to take city sanitation to an exemplary status.
Unit wise monitoring of wealth centre processing, strict guidance and supportive supervision, constant community participation and periodical testing of the product have been helpful in quality control of the product. Adhering the mandate, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) is doing time to time testing of the product and carries good parameter in different components. To mention, both physical and chemical components have been satisfactory since production. Important components like moisture content, particle size, nutrient content, carbon nitrogen ratio, contents like phosphorus, potash and other required components have been found at required quality level.
Mo Khata (the city compost) started its selling on 8th January 2021in a dedicated kiosk at Rajmahal after its inauguration in presence of Chief Secretary Shri Suresh Chandra Mahapatra and principal secretary H & UD department Sri G. Mathi Vathanan . In a journey of two years, the product has the reach out across costal Odisha. In the meantime it has been delivered in the districts like Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Khordha, Nayagarh and Jajpur. Beyond the city , Mo Khata is preferred and demanded by other parts of the state. Procuring agencies have kept close eye on quality testing result of Mo Khata in BMC limit.
As on date, more than 260 metric tons have been sold generating the revenue more than Rs.52 lakh. In order to promote the product and to sustain its quality, regular and random sample is collected from different Plants (MCC) and being sent for testing.
Citizens coming for Mo Khata have demanded its availability at doorsteps which has been well responded by BMC. As per provision a person can book the product phone call to a dedicated number – 7815042331and in such cases a minimum quantity of 25 kg order is supplied from nearby plants. Even in Safaei gadi of the area can supply the small quantity in the next morning. Mo Khata is available through Flip cart and Amazon too. At a fixed price @ Rs. 20 per kg it is available in kiosk from 9 am to 7.30 pm daily and from 9.30 am to 4 pm in nearby plants.
BMC is the highest quantity seller of Mo Khata in the state. Presently 34 MCCs are functional. Operation of more plants in the city will produce more Mo Khata to meet the demand. Every buyer is provided receipt against the purchase; says Suvendu Ku. Sahoo, Dy. Commissioner, Sanitaion.
