NEW DELHI/BHUBANESWAR: In a special mention, BJD Rajya Sabha MP and Party Chief Whip in Upper House, Dr Sasmit Patra has raised the land allotment issue for the for Odisha Culture Centre and Library in New Delhi.
“Odisha is a land of culture and tradition. Odissi dance has achieved world wide acclaim, Odia language as recognised as one of the 6 classical languages in India.Odia cuisine, textiles, handloom and handicrafts are known for their richness in culture. People of Odisha do not have a suitable permanent building or space in Delho where they can show case such cultural richness of Odisha,” Dr Patra wrote to Rajya Sabha Secretary General for listing the matter for discussion on Tuesday, which was accepted and the MP raised the matter. “9 months have been passed but nothing has happened and I hope the Hon,ble Minister will hear the demands,” Dr Patra told the House.
Citing a letter written by Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to Union Housing and Urban Development Minister dated December 7, 2019, Rajya Sabha MP Dr Patra argued that no action has been taken on the legitimate demands of Odisha and Odia people. Dr Patra also further mentioned that if the initiative came up, it will also attract foreign tourists and as well as also domestic tourists.
