BJD Rajya Sabha MP and Spokesperson, Dr Sasmit Patra was on Friday hit out at BJP for obstructionist and anti-student agenda posture on varsity reforms. The students, parents, and teachers would be more aware of the University’s finances and expenditure from now onwards with this reform, MP Dr Patra said.

Dr. Patra said University reforms brought about by the State Cabinet two days ago was meant to make the University administration more effective and transparent. These reforms will lead to better academics and research on University campuses, he added. He said the University financial details were being earlier placed in State Legislative Assembly which was not accessible by all.

Dr. Patra alleged that the people of Odisha has seen how the BJP in the past was trying to create similar obstructions in other developmental issues also. The negative attitude of the Odisha BJP stands exposed before the people of Odisha and the students and academicians of Odisha will never forgive them for their cheap politics, Dr. Patra added.

The State Cabinet on Wednesday has decided to bring all universities of the state under the ambit of one law. Similarly, the tenure of the Vice-Chancellors of the state universities was hiked from three to four years and their retirement age limit was extended from 65 to 67 years.

The BJP has earlier alleged the state government of trying to interfere in the functioning of the universities which will eventually hamper the autonomy of these establishments.

These pro-student and pro-academician steps will lead to a drastic improvement in education in Universities and the Odisha BJP making such false, baseless, and malicious allegations have once again exposed the extents to which they will go to oppose anything which is done for the betterment of higher education, particularly students and academicians, Dr Patra added.
