BHUBANESWAR/NEW DELHI: Call it BJD Rajya Sabha MP Dr Sasmit Patra is flying high. One after another success has boosted the morale of BJD MP.Parliamentary Bulletin of Rajya Sabha, said that the Chairman has re-constituted the Panel of Vice-Chairmen with effect from July 24.
MP Dr Patra is the first Odia Parliamentarian in 20 years to be nominated to the Vice-Chairmen Panel of Rajya Sabha. Along with Dr. Sasmit Patra, there are five other senior MPs who have been nominated to the Vice-Chairmen panel and they are- Shri Bhubaneswar Kalita, ShrimatiVandana Chavan, Shri Sukhendu Sekhar Ray, Shri Surendra Singh Nagar, and Dr. L Hanumanthaiah.
It is a matter of great pride for Odisha that first-term BJD Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Sasmit Patra has been nominated to the Vice-Chairmen Panel of Rajya Sabha.
Being on the Vice-Chairmen Panel of Rajya Sabha is a responsibility for presiding over the House during the Session as and when required by the Hon’ble Chairman, Rajya Sabha. The Panel of Vice-Chairmen in Rajya Sabha holds the same position in the House while presiding as the Chairman of the House.
Dr. Patra has expressed his deep gratitude to Hon’ble CM and BJD President Shri. Naveen Patnaik for having nominated him to Rajya Sabha and having given me the opportunity in the first place, and to Hon’ble Chairman, Rajya Sabha for his kind nomination of him to the Vice-Chairmen panel.
Earlier, the blue eyed Rajya Sabha MP and one of the trusted political lieutenants of Chief Minister Patnaik, Dr Patra, inducted MP Dr Patra as one of its Advisors in its Board of Femme First Foundation, an organisation working for women empowerment
Besides, MP Dr Patra, former Governor and Union Minister Margaret Alva and former Lok Sabha MP from Uttar Pradesh , Annu Tandon, were also inducted in the Advisory Board. The Foundation is being headed by Manipur based Angellica Aribam, who was named one of Forbes India’s “30 Under 30” in 2017.
Dr. Patra is a Rajya Sabha member from Odisha since 2019 and also a Spokesperson of the Biju Janata Dal. He is a law graduate with a PhD in Business Management. Dr. Patra is committed to increasing women’s participation in political processes. He has a vast political party organisational experience.
