BHUBANESWAR: Alaka Mohanty, wife of late MLA Kishore Kumar Mohanty, named BJD’s candidate for Brajrajnagar by-election
Radharani Panda who had won Brajrajnagar in the 2014 polls defeating her nearest BJD rival Anup Kumar Sai. However, had lost to the BJD’s Kishore Kumar Mohanty in the 2019 elections, will again fielded as BJP candidate. Congress yet to name its candidate. The State Congress has recommended to the AICC the name of former Minister and former Assembly Speaker Kishore Patel as its nominee.
The by-poll, which is scheduled to be held on May 31, has been necessitated by the death of Mohanty on December 30, 2021 due to cardiac arrest. The counting of votes will take place on June 3.
