BHUBANESWAR: Ending all speculations, ruling Biju Janata Dal on Wednesday heading for a landslide victory in Patkura Assembly seat by-polls in politically sensitive Kendrapara district of Odisha.

With last reports came in, BJD’s Sabitri Agarwal, widow of late veteran Bed Prakash Agarwal, leading by near about 11,000 votes from his rival BJP’s strongman Bijay Mohapatra.

The counting started early in the morning at Kendrapara Autonomous College.A total of 18 rounds of counting will be done for 309 polling booths. Voting was recorded 72.69 per cent on July 20.

Jayant Mohanty of Congress seems lose his deposits as he only got near about 1000 votes till last reports came.

Though Mohapatra was defeated in the last three elections in 2004, 2009 and 2014, this time he seems to had given a tough challenge to the BJD forcing Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik but trends show otherwise.

Mohapatra contested from Patkura in 2004 and 2009 elections while in 2014 polls, he was a BJP candidate from the newly carved out Mahakalapada constituency.
