BHUBANESWAR: ‘ I express my gratitude to the honorable Chief Minister Mr. Naveen Patnaik for selecting me as the MLA candidate for Padampur constituency,’ BJD candidate for Padmapur Byepolls, Barsha Singh Bariha said.

Meanwhile, a press release issued by BJD, which was signed by Party Boss and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, regarding Padmapur Bye-polls and Party’s candidate for it, has drawn flake.

The BJD release said “ Smt Barsha Singh Bariha, W/O Shri Smruti Sourav Baliarsingh is the Biju Janata Dal candidate for bye elections to No-1 Padmapur Assembly Constituency.’

Barsha Singh Bariha, is not only wife of Smruti Sourav Baliarsingh, but also daughter of late MLA Bijaya Ranjan Singh Bariha but the BJD release has no mention of the late 5th times MLA.

This was announced by Chief Minister and BJD Boss, Naveen Patnaik on Monday. Barsha is also the daughter-in-law of BJP leader Rama Ranjan Baliarsingh.

“They could have written ‘Smt Barsha Singh Bariha, D/O Late Bijay Singh Bariha’ instead of ‘Smt Barsha Sing Bariha, W/O Smruti Sourav Baliarsingh’. Understand the politics,” a senior Journalist pointed out.

The delay of BJD  was due to the fact that the conch party is yet to zero in on one of four possibilities- Bijay Ranjan Singh Bariha’s wife, his two daughters and daughter-in-law.

Former minister and Padampur MLA late Bijay’s wife Tilotama and daughter-in-law (nephew’s wife) Madhavi Singh were in the race of contenders for getting BJD ticket. Meanwhile, the names of the late MLA’s elder daughter Barsha and younger daughter Kadambini had also cropped up as contenders for the same while Barsha chosen as BJD candidate.

Congress named  Satya Bhusan Sahu as its candidate  for the bye-election scheduled on December 5. BJP Candidate for Padmapur bye-election in Odisha’s Bargarh district, on Monday filing his nomination papers.
