Bilateral academic and research cooperation will be further strengthened – Dharmendra Pradhan

BHUBANESWAR:The two-day ‘India-Spain Higher Education Summit’ held in New Delhi concluded successfully today. Union Education Minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and delivered the keynote address. The event was organized on February 19 and 20 in collaboration with the Embassy of Spain in India, and was held concurrently with the ‘India AI Impact Summit 2026’.

Shri Pradhan said that the year 2026 is being celebrated as the ‘Spain-India Biennial Year’, which marks 70 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Education, research and youth exchange programs are the cornerstones of this relationship. He expressed that India is fully prepared for global educational cooperation through the National Education Policy – 2020 and invited Spanish universities to open campuses in India. The Minister said that AI should never be a substitute for human decisions or creativity, but should be strengthened. India and Spain are committed to working together towards responsible innovation. The conference will not be limited to discussions but will focus on implementation. Shri Pradhan opined that the knowledge bridges built today will instill confidence in the youth of tomorrow.

The conference was attended by senior academic leaders from more than 30 Spanish universities and about 70 higher education institutions in India. Joint research, mobility of teachers and students, and startup collaboration were discussed in detail. Ambassador of the Spanish Embassy, ​​H.E. Juan Antonio March Pujol, said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given top priority to this educational collaboration. These discussions will be further developed in the coming days and a similar conference will be organized in Spain as well.
