BHUBANESWAR/PARADIP: Betelvine measurement and demolition work has come to an end in the Jagatsingpur district for the proposed JSW project. On December 22, 2021,the betelvine of Ranjan Behera of village Gobindpur,was demolished for the first time.
Thereafter,the betelvine measurement and demolition work was taken up in Patna and Mahal villages in a phased manner.Finally,t was started in Dhinkia villag and continued for 20 days. Maximum of 272 betelvines had been measured, out of which 261 were demolished and 218 beneficiaries were compensated. Similarly, in Gobindpur village,96 vines of 102 beneficiaries were destroyed and 92 were compensated.
In Mahal revenue village, 251 betelvines of 261 beneficiaries were destroyed while 236 beneficiaries were provided with financial assistance.
In Patna village,214 vines of 225 beneficiaries were demolished , while 190 have been provided with financial assistance. A total of 822 betelvines of 860 beneficiaries were demolished in the entire panchayat and till date,757 have been provided with 19 crores of rupees as compensation.
However, in the village of Dhinkia in the panchayat, some betelvines have been left out due to some controversy over measurements and necessary action shall be taken by the local administration at a later date. In the village of Gobindpur, on the one hand, the process of identifying and counting of the trees in the campus of the local people is going on and on the other hand, the construction of the boundary wall is also underway by IDCO.
