NEW DELHI/BHUBANESWAR: BJP National Vice-President and Spokesperson Baijayant ‘Jay’ Panda, who had earlier requested Odisha Government to seal Odisha –West Bengal border in view of infiltrations from neighbouring States following outbreak of COVID-19, has expressed happiness after Odisha Police took swift action.
“I had requested in a tweet to Odisha government to seal borders with West Bengal given the rise of Corona virus cases & non reporting of the same.Today they have decided to amp up security and also seal them.I appreciate the swift response of CMO Odisha to this request of mine.This was necessary, given the nature of the situation in W.Bengal, where callous neglect by the authorities has led to a huge rise in #Covid cases that are not being reported,” the former 4th times MP, Panda twitted.
Meanwhile, with fresh cases from Jajpur and Balasore, Odisha COVID-19 positive cases reached at 89 till Friday morning. After four persons from Jajpur district were tested COVID-19 positive this morning, two more were found positive for Coronavirus from Balasore district.So far, 10 positive cases of Coronavirus have been detected from Balasore.
With this, the total tally of COVID-19 positive cases in Odisha went up to 89. Of these, 55 are active cases, 33 persons have been cured and one has succumbed to the deadly virus.
Due to detection of a significant number of COVID-19 cases in the districts of Jajpur, Bhadrak, and Balasore in the last few days, the Odisha Government has ordered a complete shutdown in these districts from 10 PM of April 23 to 10 AM of April 26.
The State Revenue & Disaster Management Department has issued a notification in this regard with a list of some essential services which remain functional during this 60-hour shutdown period.
