NEW DELHI/BHUBANESWAR: BJP Rajya Sabha MP from Odisha, Ashwini Vaishnaw on Thursday took charge as Union Railways Minister with a Cabinet Rank. Earlier Bhakta Charan Das and Kanhu Charan Lenka from Odisha were MoS Railways around 20 years ago.
“Took charge as Cabinet Minister of Railways today. Once again from the core of my heart, I extend my gratitude to Hon’ble PM @narendramodi ji for entrusting me this responsibility.@RailMinIndia,” India’s new Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw tweeted . @AshwiniVaishnaw.
Vaishnaw, an alumnus of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur, is representing Odisha in the Upper House of Parliament since July 1, 2019. He joined the BJP on June 22, 2019, a day after the saffron party fielded him as its nominee for the Rajya Sabha bypoll in same year.
