BHUBANESWAR: Odisha Higher Education and Agriculture Minister Dr Arun Sahoo has ruled out any hindrances to the integrity and impartial functioning of Universities in view of the ordinance passed by the State Government to bring amendment in Odisha Universities Act-1989.
While addressing a webinar , Minister Dr Sahoo said, University reforms brought about by the State Cabinet was meant to make the University administration more effective and transparent. These reforms will lead to better academics and research on University campuses, Dr Sahoo said. He said the University financial details were being earlier placed in State Legislative Assembly which was not accessible by all.
These pro-student and pro-academician steps will lead to a drastic improvement in education in Universities and which was done for the betterment of higher education, particularly students and academicians, Dr Sahoo argued.
The State Cabinet had decided to bring all universities of the state under the ambit of one law. Similarly, the tenure of the Vice-Chancellors of the state universities was hiked from three to four years and their retirement age limit was extended from 65 to 67 years.As per Article 10(i) of the ordinance, the Syndicate would consist of two Professors each from the autonomous and non-autonomous colleges affiliated to the concerned university.
