BHUBANESWAR: With Puja fever gripping the State of Odisha while the Onam Festival in Kerala is in mind, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday again pitched an emotional appeal urging people to celebrate Puja at home and don’t venture out and firmly fight COVID-19, which has gradually disappearing from the scenes.
In a video message, Patnaik argued that the number of positive cases in Odisha has dropped in the last 15 days. “The single-day tally which was over 4,000 on September 26 has now come down to below 2000. The positivity rate has also declined and will further fall in coming days,” Patnaik said. “However, the character profile of Coronavirus is very critical. Hence we have to remain cautious till the vaccine and medicine come for treatment of the disease,” he added.
The CM urged all the people of the state not to crowd public places during Durga Puja and Diwali and celebrate the festivals with their family members by staying indoors. Carelessness and disobedience to the guidelines during the festive season will lead to further spread of the virus, he cautioned.Experts claim that the COVID-19 outbreak will become worst during the coming winter months, he added.
Kerala, which had once controlled COVID-19 in an effective manner, has registered a three fold rise in single-day positive cases post its popular festival Onam, people of Odisha should remain cautious and follow the guidelines during the upcoming festivals to avert similar situation in the State, he added.
