BERHAMPUR/BHUBANESWAR: After helper Shankar Pal, Engineer Abhisek Pal on Sunday succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at the hospital for the last 5 days after sustaining injuries in the Grasim Industries Limited Mishap in Ganjam. Grasim Industries Limited, a subsidiary of Aditya Birla Group, is the only company to produce caustic soda in Odisha.
With Pal’s death, who hails from Cuttack, toll reached at 2. On October 9, helper Shankar Roul had died. The steam pipe of the plant of Grasim Industries had exploded on October 6 leaving 4 workers critically injured. The victims were admitted to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur while Pal and Roul were later shifted to the private hospital as their condition deteriorated but both succumbed to injuries.
The incident had sparked outrage among workers at the company. The workers had staged demonstration in front of the company alleging that the workers are facing many problems due to the company’s negligence.
