BHUBANESWAR:A one-day capacity building workshop for police officers was organized by Odisha Police Railway and Coastal Security at Police Bhawan in Bhubaneswar today. The workshop focused on enhancing the professional skills and efficiency of the officers, awareness about railway and coastal security, and various legal aspects like role of technology in crime investigation, cyber crime, modern methods of investigation, national and international maritime laws.

DGP Shri Yogesh Bahadur Khurania, IPS formally inaugurated the workshop and said that this workshop will help in increasing the capacity of railway and coastal security. He said that our main goal is to strengthen and modernize railway and coastal security. Odisha Police is giving utmost importance to increasing human resources, modern technology and improving working style.
The Director General of Police mentioned in his speech that the state government is making efforts to make the Odisha Police the most modern and strong in the country and one of the leading police organizations in the country, and is providing all kinds of help and cooperation.
He further said that — professional skills, timely preparation and coordination among the personnel are the main keys to providing effective police services to the people. He called for further strengthening of railway and coastal security by applying the learnings available in this workshop in the field.
Shri Khurania advised the officers to constantly update their skills and always be aware of new challenges.
“Odisha Police is ready to face new challenges with confidence and is working more professionally in the service of the people,” said the DGP.
Odisha has a long coastline and the role of Odisha Police in coastal security is very important. The state government has approved Rs 149.95 crore to strengthen this coastal security system, he said.
10 modern drones, 3 trawlers and 140 special police officers have been deployed for coastal security. The DGP said that a modern command and control centre will be set up soon for real-time surveillance.
Work is underway to cover 32 fishing ports and harbors with CCTV systems. Along with this, the process of purchasing new boats has also begun.
Extensive steps are being taken to further modernise the Railway Police. The process of creating new Railway Police Districts and some new GRPSs has been initiated and funds have also been sanctioned for setting up CCTV monitoring centres in all the 15 GRPSs, the DGP said.
In this workshop, Dr. Keshav Kumar, IPS (Retd. DGP, Gujarat) Forensics Advisor, Government of Assam, spoke about “Use of Technology in Crime Investigation” and shared his personal life experiences.
The workshop also discussed issues such as illegal entry and human trafficking.
Indian Coast Guard officer, Commandant Shri Ravindra Kumar joined and gave a presentation on maritime security issues including international and national maritime security laws.
Shri Arun Bothra, IPS, Additional Director General of Security (Railways and Coastal Security) delivered the welcome address and highlighted the importance of professionalism, timely preparation and ensuring coastal security. He also highlighted the importance of controlling railway crime.
Shri Alok Bohra, IGP, RPF, spoke about the need for proper coordination and cooperation between various agencies. He said that there is a constant need for better understanding, coordination and cooperation between various law enforcement and intelligence agencies.
At the end of the program, AIG (Railways and Coastal Security) Shri Satyajit Mishra proposed the vote of thanks.
Officials from government railway stations and marine stations participated in today’s event.
