BHUBANESWAR:A large-scale joint enforcement operation was conducted today across Saheed Nagar and Kharavela Nagar Police Station areas by teams of STF, Crime Branch, Health Department, Drugs Control Administration, Excise Department, and Food Safety officials.
During the operation, violations relating to the sale of banned Gutkha/Pan Masala, unauthorised stocking of tobacco products, and public smoking offences under COTPA-2003 were detected. A total of 26 locations, including individuals found smoking in public places, were penalised. A cumulative fine of ₹5,000 was collected on the spot from offenders.
Retailers selling Gutkha, Pan Masala, and cigarettes in contravention of the law were warned that repeat violations will invite prosecution and arrest. Strict instructions were also issued prohibiting the sale of cigarettes and tobacco products to minors. The enforcement teams reiterated that Gutkha and tobacco use are major contributors to oral cancer, affecting both individuals and their families.
The operation involved active participation of Drugs Inspectors, Assistant Drugs Controller, STF and Crime Branch officers, Excise officials, Food Safety Officers, and field enforcement personnel.
The Superintendent of Police, STF, Crime Branch has directed continued raids and awareness drives across Bhubaneswar to safeguard the youth and curb illegal tobacco trade and addiction.
