8th National Tribal Craft Mela Kicks Off in Bhubaneswar

BHUBANESWAR:  The 7-day long 8th National Tribal Crafts Mela was on Saturday inaugurated by Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik here at the State Tribal Museum Complex in Bhubaneswar. The Tribal Crafts Mela will be opened for public from 2.00 PM to 8.00 PM every day from November 23 to 29

The Mela has been organised with the objective of promotion & popularisation of traditional tribal arts & crafts of 18 States represented by more than 250 artisans.The National Tribal Crafts Mela showcases traditional tribal arts & crafts through various forms viz. handlooms, tribal textiles, paintings, embroidery, etc. to help artisans for better opportunities of developing skills through cross-cultural interactions & commercial viability.

Tribal artisans will showcase handicraft items, handloom products, iron, bamboo products, puppets, lacquer craft, tribal jewellery, dhokra, sabai and siali crafts, tribal textiles and embroidery work, tribal paintings and many more tribal products.

Besides, government and non- government organisations like TRIFED, TDCC, OTDC, World Act, Anwesha, SCSTRTI and ATLC are also participating in the Mela.On the occasion, the Chief Minister also released 45 Supplementary Readers prepared in 21 Tribal languages.

These supplementary Readers will be used as Learning Materials for Multi-Lingual Education (MLE) of Scheduled Tribe Students.Prominent among others, ST & SC Development Minister Jagannath Saraka, departmental Principal Secretary Ranjana Chopra, Director (ST), ST & SC Development department Sachin R Yadav, Advisor-cum-Director SCSTRTI AB Ota were present in the event.
