CUTTACK:The 74th State Police Athletic Championship – 2026 was inaugurated today at the Reserve Police Ground in Buxibazar, Cuttack. Shri Binaytosh Mishra, IPS, DGP, Crime Branch Chief, joined as the chief guest and officially inaugurated it and expressed his opinion that this championship is a symbol of discipline, restraint and tolerance of Odisha Police.
He said that this state-level sports event is an opportunity for the working personnel of Odisha Police to showcase their physical and mental skills. He also expressed happiness over the increase in the number of female sportspersons in the competition this year.
In the recent past, the sportspersons of Odisha Police have achieved extraordinary success in national and international police sports competitions, enhancing the glory of the state and the police department. He expressed hope that in the coming days, the successful competitors from this championship will make Odisha Police proud by participating in the All India Police Athletic Championship and other big competitions.
DGP Shri Mishra expressed that such championships increase self-confidence, discipline and dedication towards duty among police officers/employees. He also expressed that since players from state, district and range levels are participating in this tournament, good harmony will be created among each other.
On this occasion, he thanked the State Director General of Security, Shri Yogesh Bahadur Khurania, for organizing and managing the championship.
A total of 502 players from 36 police teams from different ranges and battalions across the state participated in this championship. 427 men and 75 women participated in this championship. The competition will continue till the 10th of next month.

Praveen Kumar, IGP (SAP) Satish Kumar Gajbhiye, IGP (Intellegence) Shri Jai Narayan Pankaj, DIG (Provisioning) Shri Charan Singh Meena, DCP (Cuttack) Shri Khilari Rushikesh Dyandeo, 6th Battalion Commandant Shri Surya Narayan Mallick and many other senior officers were present at the event.
