BHUBANESWAR: 73 Per Cent polling reported in 4th phase of Odisha Rural Polls on Tuesday. State Election Commissioner, Aditya Prasad Padhi told media persons that the fourth phase of polling for the three-tier Panchayat elections concluded peacefully with disruption in voting reported in four-five places.
No report of violence has surfaced. Polling halted at two places due to error in ballot paper folding – voting stopped for Sarpanch post at a booth in Kendrapara and for ward member post at one booth in Jajpur, State Election Commission office said.
Voting for the 4th phase began at 7 am in 27 districts of the state today and continued till 1 pm. The fourth phase election was being held at 17,089 booths in 1,254 Gram Panchayats (GPs) under 64 blocks in 27 districts.
The State Election Commission had identified 2,563 booths as sensitive booths and tight security measures have been put in place in these booths. Over 51.31 lakh voters were eligible to cast their votes in this phase. As many as 667 candidates were in fray for the 163 ZP member seats
