BHUBANESWAR/JHARSUGUDA: At least 69% polling recorded till 5 PM for the elections to the Brajarajnagar bye polls on Tuesday.The voting for the by-poll to Brajrajnagar assembly segment in Jharsuguda district was started at 7 AM and continued till 6 PM.
“The election was conducted peacefully. The final voters’ turnout in the by-poll will be known after polling parties returned from the booths,” said Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Sushil Kumar Lohani.
No untoward incident reported from any booth in the constituency till 5 PM. However, due to some technical glitches, four EVMs have been replaced, he said.
The bypoll was necessitated after the death of Brajrajnagar MLA Kishore Kumar Mohanty on December 30, 2021 due to cardiac arrest.
District administration volunteers and police men were seen escorting and assisting the movement of disabled, old and infirm to help them exercise their franchise. “Come, vote and maximize the turn out,” DM Jharsuguda had said.
As many as 2,14,878 voters were exercising their franchise at 279 booths in the constituency. The counting of votes will take place on June 3.
60 booths had been identified as sensitive, there were five pink booths where only women polling agents have been engaged.
