BHUBANESWAR: The 5T –Nabin Odisha, Chairman VK Pandian visited Sundargarh District to review progress of various developmental projects in district and interact with the public as per the direction of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
Pandian assessed status of major projects including Mega Lift Irrigation Projects at Semina, Riughat, Khairidihi and Satara; Mega Piped water supply schemes; Instream storage structures; important bridges etc.
Interacting with public, Pandian narrated about Chief Minister’s commitment to hold Hockey World Cup in Rourkela as mark of respect to Sundargarh’s contribution towards Indian Hockey. ‘When FIH announced Hockey World Cup-2023 in Odisha again, CM insisted on second host venue at Rourkela,’ Pandian said quoting CM’s statement ‘Bhubaneswar is state capital while Rourkela is the Hockey capital of Odisha’.
Shri Pandian further recounted that when International Hockey Federation expressed concerns about lack of hockey stadium, hotels and airport in Rourkela, CM assured that the state is committed and will get it done. Inspite of Covid challenge and delays, the stadium, 225 room accomodation and airport was constructed in record time, he said.
Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium was constructed in record 15 months and also achieved the Guinness book record for largest seated hockey stadium in the world, Shri Pandian said in his interaction with public. The 5T-Nabin Odisha Chairman attended meetings in Sundargarh sadar and Balisankara block where he received grievances on various issues and assured early resolution.
