NEW DELHI/BHUBANESWAR: As many as 55 Rajya Sabha seats including 4 from Odisha to goes for polls on March 26, said Election Commission of India on Tuesday.
Polling for 55 Rajya Sabha seats spread over 17 States set to be vacated in April. ECI said “The term of office of 55 members of the Rajya Sabha elected from 17 States is due to expire on their retirement in April, 2020.”
Issue of Notifications on 06thMarch, 2020 (Friday), last date of making nominations on 13th March, 2020 (Friday), scrutiny of nominations on 16thMarch, 2020 (Monday), last date for withdrawal of candidatures on 18th March, 2020 (Wednesday)
Biennial Elections to four Rajya Sabha seats of Odisha will be held on March 26.Terms of four Rajya Sabha MPs from Odisha– Anubhav Mohanty, Narendra Kumar Swain, Sarojini Hembram and Ranjib Biswal– are due to expire on 02.04.2020, the release said.
Apart from Odisha’s 4, Maharashtra has 7 followed by Tamil Nadu 6, West Bengal 5, Andhra Pradesh 4, Telangana 2 , Assam 3, Bihar 5, Chhattisgarh 2, Gujarat 4, Haryana 2, Himanchal Pradesh 1, Jharkhand 2, Madhya Pradesh 3, Rajasthan 3 and 1 each of Meghalaya and Manipur.
According to the schedule for the elections, the notification would be issued on March 6, the last date of filing of nominations would be March 13 and polling would be on March 26, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The votes would be counted at 5 p.m. on the same day.
