SAMBALPUR: According to the National Education Policy, the medium of education should be mother tongue. Similarly, to make the Indian justice system accessible to the common people, it should be made mother tongue based. The working language in all courts of Odisha should be ‘Odia’ (mother tongue). Mother tongue is the biggest and easiest medium of expression. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has said that only if the language barrier is removed, the people in the last rung of the society will be able to get fair justice.

Attending the 54th annual conference of the ‘All Odisha Lawyers Association’ held in Sambalpur on Monday, Shri Pradhan said, “The message of unity and solidarity that has been created among the legal community of Odisha from this historic city of Sambalpur is commendable.”

Lawyers are the main watchmen for the protection of our Constitution and democracy. Today, when under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, we have taken the resolution of building a ‘Developed India’ and ‘Developed Odisha’, your role in it is very important. Your dedication and service attitude towards providing justice to the common people and protecting their rights can build a healthy society, he said.
The intellectual capacity of our Odia lawyers is very high. The best example of this is Utkal Gaurav Madhusudan Das. Although he was a Christian by religion, he fought the case for the rights of Lord Jagannath. Due to his vision and sense of responsibility, the Jagannath culture is intact today. We should be similarly responsible today and increase the number and influence of Odias in the Supreme Court.

The next century is very important for us. By the time Odisha completes 100 years of its formation by 2036 and 100 years of its independence by 2047, our justice system must be completely Indian and mother tongue based. We will have to move away from Western thinking and adopt Indian culture and values, he said.
