BHUBANESWAR/BARBIL/KOIRA: Despite several missives from Odisha Government, Mining Companies continued evade additional stamp duty for excavation of minerals. Sources said, each mining lessee , whose production limit is enhanced either in the mining plan or in the environmental clearances certificates is liable to pay additional stamp duty for such additional and enhanced amount of production and such additional stamp duty is payable by the lessee concerned on the instrument of such enhancement of production limit.
The stamp duty amount would be around more than Rs 1000 Crore, sources added. The office of IG(Registration), Cuttack is keeping quit despite several reminders from State Revenue and Disaster Management Department and the IGR office is also not taking steps for raising the demand and realising the additional stamp duty for enhanced production limit by many mining firms
On November 20, 2020, Steel and Mines Department had written to Revenue and Disaster Management Department informing about enhancement of production as per approved mining plan in respect of Nuagaon Iron Ore Block of Sajjan Jindal led JSW Steel. JSW Steel’s Narayanposhi Iron Ore and Manganese Composite block is liable to pay additional stamp duty in view of mining expansion.
OMC’s Kondingamali bauxite mines, IDC’s Ambavalley, Indrani Patnaik’s Uchhabali Iron Ore block, KC Pradhan’s Nayagarh Iron Ore block, Odisha Mining Corporation run Gandhamardan Block, IMFA’S Sukinda and Mahagiri Chromites Mines, Balasore Alloys’s Kaliapani chromite block, Tata’s Kamarda block, IDCOL’s Telengi Block, OMC’s Daitari Block, FACOR’s Kalaragita block, Tata’s Saruabil block, Utkal Alumina’s Bapimali bauxite block, Kunal Kishore Das’s Anajodi Manganese mines are yet to pay additional stamp duty despite several reminders.Similarly, Shivanand Pradhan’s Birida graphite mines, Parhsurampur Decorative Stone, Bendalia Decorative Stone and Khambari Gaon Decorative Stone also in the list.
