CUTTACK/BHUBANESWAR: The General elections to 106 ULBs and 3 Municipal Corporations in the State will be held on 24th March, 2022 and people of Urban areas of 30 districts will cast their votes. State Police have made adequate security arrangement for free and fair elections.
100 platoons force and 340 mobile patrolling parties along with district Police Officers/ Men have been deployed for 106 ULBs over the state for smooth conduct of ULBs elections. Total 1731 numbers of wards will go for poll consisting of 3066 number of booths.
105 platoons force and 110 mobile patrolling parties along with Police Officers/ Men have been deployed for 03 Municipal Corporations (BMC, CMC, BeMC) for smooth conduct of elections. Total 168 numbers of wards will go for poll consisting of 1409 number of booths in three Municipal corporations.
The election will be conducted with strict enforcement of State Election Commission Guidelines. Police have seized 24663 Litres Liquor, 98 illegal arms, 3.444 Kgs of narcotic drugs, registered 1377 nos of excise cases and executed 480 no of pending warrants during the Urban Election process so far.
Adequate security arrangements have also been made in different Strong Rooms throughout the urban areas with CCTV coverage to ensure round the clock safety of EVMs.
As per State election Commission office, a total of 40.55 lakh voters will exercise their franchise in the ensuing Urban Local Body (ULB) polls, scheduled to be held on Thursday.
Around 22,000 officials have been deployed on poll duty and they have been asked to reach their respective polling stations by the afternoon of March 23. District administrations have made necessary arrangements for the same.
While 569 people are in fray for Mayor and Chairperson posts, 5,842 are contesting for Corporator and Councilor posts. Total 40,55,053 people will be allowed to cast their vote at total 4,373 booths from 8 am to 5 pm on the polling day. Each polling booth will have two EVMs.
The elections for 106 ULBs (47 Municipalities and 59 NACs) and three Municipal Corporations will be held in 1672 Municipality and NAC Wards and in 165 Wards of three Municipal Corporations. Counting of votes and declaration of results will take place on March 26.
