BHUBANESWAR:On 23.12.2025, the Hon’ble 2nd Additional Sessions Judge, Khordha Court has pronounced judgment in a serious criminal case ST Case No. 79 of 2024, GR Case No. 170 of 2024, which is related to Khordha IE Thana Case No. 40 of 2024. This case was registered in the month of April 2024.

According to the complaint, on the night of 06/07.02.2024 at around 1.00 am, while the complainant was sleeping at home with her blind son Bedal Pradhan and her minor daughter, the accused, taking advantage of the absence of her husband and the door of the house not being properly closed, entered the house and raped her. When the son protested, the accused beat him up and threatened to kill him and fled.
After a thorough investigation, trial, and careful consideration of oral, written, and scientific evidence, the court found Bank Nayak of Tangiapada village guilty.
The accused has been sentenced to 10 years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of ₹20,000 (in default, 3 months additional rigorous imprisonment), 5 years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of ₹5,000 (in default, 2 months), and 2 years and 6 months rigorous imprisonment respectively under IPC Section 506 and 323.
While the investigation of the case was done by Smt. Gayatri Mishra, former IIC, IE Police Station, the case was successfully handled by Sri Rudranil Bhattacharya, Additional Public Prosecutor and closely monitored by Sri Nalinikant Maharana, Deputy Director (Prosecution), Khurda. The verdict reflects the strong commitment of the Khurda Police towards justice and rule of law.
