RANCHI:NTPC, through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, has been actively implementing various skill development programs aimed at empowering underprivileged communities, fostering self-employment, and promoting entrepreneurship.

In this context, NTPC Mining Limited (NML) in Ranchi has sponsored skill development training for 80 youth, 25 including girls, from project-affected areas surrounding its coal mining operations in Jharkhand, Odisha, and Chhattisgarh. This initiative is in collaboration with the Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering & Technology (CIPET), Ranchi.

CIPET provided job-oriented training in two key courses: Machine Operator – Plastic Processing and Machine Operator – Injection Moulding.

Recently, the first batch of the Machine Operator – Plastic Processing course, consisting of 40 students from various NTPC coal mining projects—including Pakri Barwadih, Chatti Bariattu, Kerendari, Badam, Banardih, Dulanga, and Talaipalli has successfully completed their training, which commenced on March 20, 2024, and concluded with job placements on September 19, 2024.

At the valedictory program, Shri Rajnish Rastogi, Chief General Manager (HR), NTPC Coal Mining HQ along with Shri Pravin Bachhav, Joint Director & Head of CIPET, Ranchi, interacted with the students and distributed course completion certificates and job placement letters to encourage the rural students and Project Affected Persons (PAPs) from NTPC coal mining projects.

The second batch for the Machine Operator – Injection Moulding skill development course is currently underway and will complete its training in December 2024. Till date this is the 3rd batch of students who have completed the course.

The following are the excerpts from Project-Affected Persons (PAPs) and Students after successful completion of the course:

Asish Sinha hails from Pakri Barwadih Village. He holds a degree and has experience working with computers in Delhi. However, like many others post-COVID, he lost his job and had to return to his village in Jharkhand. Reflecting on this change, he now views it as a blessing in disguise, as it allowed him to complete a skill development program at CIPET, Ranchi, supported by NML.He is excited to have secured a job, marking a new chapter in his journey toward self-empowerment. He expresses heartfelt gratitude, stating that this opportunity would not have been possible without the cooperation of NML and CIPET, Ranchi.

Kabita Sa, a resident of Sundergarh District in Odisha, completed her intermediate studies in Arts. She is the daughter of a farmer and a project-affected person (PAP) from NTPC Dulanga. Kabitaa is excited to share that the six-month training program offered by NML was a significant turning point in her life. The skill development training in plastic processing was entirely new to her, and she found the course to be an enriching experience. In addition to technical skills, she gained valuable knowledge in other subjects, including computer literacy and English speaking, which were integral parts of the curriculum. This holistic approach contributed to her overall personal development and prepared her for the job market. She aspires to excel in her new job and build a successful career.
