BHUBANESWAR:On 20.12.2025, the 1st Additional Sessions Judge of Khordha, Sir/Madam, has pronounced judgment in a case of brutal murder in ST Case No. 164 of 2011, which is related to GR Case No. 380 of 2011 and Tangi Police Station Case No. 64/2011.

According to the complaint, on the night of 13.04.2011, the deceased, Vrindavan Raut, was sleeping on a mattress in the verandah outside his house. On the morning of 14.04.2011, the complainant, Biddha Raut, found her father-in-law not on the mattress and noticed blood stains, scattered objects, marks of dragging and unknown shoe marks. Later, it was reported that the body of the deceased was lying near the Mundla-Barapatna railway line. The body was found in two parts and there was blood stains from the house to the railway line. A case of murder was registered against Manoj Raut, Prafulla Kumar Raut and Subala Raut in connection with a previous land dispute.
After thorough investigation and trial, the High Court has convicted the two accused, namely Mani @ Narayan Arisal and Prafulla Kumar Raut. They have been sentenced to life imprisonment under Section 302/34 IPC along with a fine of ₹10,000/- each. They have also been sentenced to 5 years rigorous imprisonment under Section 120-B/34 IPC and 2 years rigorous imprisonment under Section 201/34 IPC.
The case was successfully investigated by Shri Ramachandra Sahu, former IIC, Tangi Police Station, while the prosecution was successfully handled by Shri Rajni Kant Patnaik, Additional Public Prosecutor and supervised by Shri Nalini Kant Maharana, Deputy Director, Complaints Management, Khordha.
This verdict reflects the Khordha Police’s strong commitment to justice and belief in the rule of law.
