KENDRAPARA/BHUBANESWAR: A 10 ft hole on Gadagadi Ghat Bridge connecting Rajkanika-Aul in Kendrapara district has created resentment among locals living in these twin blocks. Local media reported about the incident but nothing has happened yet , sources said on Thursday.
The bridge that was constructed 20 years back, on Cuttack-Chandabali State Highway, for better road connectivity to Cuttack and other places for the people of Rajkanika, who were earlier depended on country made boats for transportation, has been lying in damaged condition and ‘poor repair’ or ‘no repair’ has been the policy of the officials manning the concerned departments and well as Kendrapara district administration.
Locals said, 10 ft hole has been developed on the bridge from Balakati village side, which has been createing a lot of hurdles for passengers, bikers and heavy vehicle movers. The Bridge played a key role in connectivity to Kendrapara and Cuttack for the people of Rajkanika.
Local MLA and State Industry, Energy and MSME Minister Pratap Keshari Deb, District Collector Amrit Rituraj and other senior officials of Works Department, Roads and Bridge, RD and Panchayati Raj Departments were frequently travelling to Rajkanika for their official and other works through this bridge but no one noticed yet this issue, locals alleged. Passenger buses and other vehicles plying through this bridge also facing hardship due to 10 ft hole.
People of 29 Panchayat of Rajkanika depends on this bridge to travel to Kendrapara, Cuttack, Bhubaneswar and other places while 32 Panchayats of Aul block, depends on the same for traveling to Rajkanika and Bhadrak through Gadagadi Ghat bridge, in total , people of more than 60 Panchayats depends on this bridge for road connectivity to major places of the State.
