NEW DELHI/BHUBANESWAR: While responding to the calls of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Steel-PNG Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Commerce, Industry and Railways Minister Piyush Goyal to increase exports, in spite of the nationwide COVID-19 lockdown, the Naveen Jindal-led JSPL is writing one success story after another.JSPL, the only private-sector company to manufacture Head-Hardened Rails, recently bagged a 2308-ton supply order from Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) for development of Kolkata Metro Corporation. Adding to this success trail JSPL also bagged a contract to supply 12,000 tonnes of special grade Rail Blooms to France rail hayange, France.
Few days back, the Congress leader Naveen Jindal owned Jindal Steel and Power Ltd, had bagged an order of 2,308 tonne head hardened rails from Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation for high-speed freight corridors and metro rail projects.
Britain and France have also evinced interest in JSPL’s products, and they are expected to place orders soon.JSPL MD V R Sharma has credited the entire team for a series of successes. “This is entirely due to the company’s policies and initiatives towards nation-building. Under the visionary leadership of Shri Naveen Jindal, JSPL is trying to put in action Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s and Union Steel Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s mantra to substantially increase exports,” said, VR Sharma, MD- JSPL.
Sharma also expressed his gratitude to the Union Steel Minister for having Steel as an Essential Commodity.Sharma said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Make in India program has been a game-changer.
“The Ministries of Steel and Railways have given steel companies an actionable roadmap, and we are grateful to Union Ministers Dharmendra Pradhan and Piyush Goyal. This is entirely due to the encouragement provided by the government that we’re manufacturing Steel in grades that were earlier imported. JSPL assures the nation that due to our R&D and hard work, today, we are ready to provide domestic consumers world-class products as we are capable of manufacturing all grades of Steel”.
Mr. Sharma further added that the 12,000-tonnes special grade Rail Blooms export order to France is valued at around Rs 50 crore. With this, JSPL has come to be acknowledged as one of the regular suppliers to France Railways. Similarly, Britain and Australia have expressed interest and they are expected to place orders as well.
“JSPL believes in innovation and is undertaking multiple experiments successfully in the rail sector. He added that after the Rail Freight Corridor and increasing demands for Metro Rails, JSPL has got a certification from RDSO, and started the production of 1080 Head-Hardened Heat-Treated Grade Rails. Rail Vikas Nigam Limited has placed an order of 2308-tonnes Rails of this series”, Sharma Further Added.
In the light of Railway’s requirements, JSPL will now manufacture R 260 Grade rails. These rails have carriage capacities of 75 ton per wagon, as compared to 64 ton per wagon for ordinary rails.
Head hardened rails are typically used in metro rail projects and high-speed freight corridors, which require maximum durability against wear and material fatigue caused by escalating train frequencies, high acceleration and deceleration, abrupt braking and higher axle loads. Head hardening technology entails a special heat treatment process that requires precise temperature control to achieve nearly 50 percent higher hardness as compared to a normal rail.
