SAMBALPUR/BHUBANESWAR:The Union Government has given all necessary approvals for the establishment of a new Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) Wellness Centre in Sambalpur. It is going to be set up in Sambalpur soon. Following the request of Union Education Minister and Sambalpur MP Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Health Minister Shri J.P. Nadda has written to him in this regard.
Shri Pradhan had written a letter to Union Health Minister Shri J.P. Nadda on 8th September 2025, informing him about the need for a CGHS Health Centre in Sambalpur. He mentioned in the letter that Sambalpur is home to many important central institutions like BSNL, Postal Department, Income Tax Department, East Coast Railway, Central Excise Department, CRPF Group Centre, IIM and Central Schools. A large number of working employees and retired pensioners are residing here. Due to lack of these facilities, they have to travel about 300 km to Bhubaneswar, Cuttack or Berhampur for treatment. This is especially distressing for the senior pensioners.
In response, the Union Health Minister Shri Nadda has informed Shri Pradhan through a letter that all necessary approvals have been received for the CGHS Centre at Sambalpur. The Finance Ministry has approved the proposal of the Health Ministry for filling up the required posts and related work for this centre. The said posts include Medical Officer, Nursing Officer, Pharmacist and Junior Health Administrative Assistant posts. However, till the centre is fully functional, the pensioners will be able to get the facilities from the nearest CGHS town and the working employees will continue to get the medical facilities under the Central Service (Medical Attendance) Rules.
Shri Pradhan expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Health Minister Shri Nadda for this initiative. He said that this will make the lives of Central Government employees and pensioners easier and will be an important step in their healthcare sector.
