Naveen Patnaik Orders Crime Branch to probe into Fake Drug Gangs

BHUBANESWAR: With increasing cases of sale of fake drugs, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday directed the Crime Branch of State police to investigate into the incidences.This move following reports  raids and seizure of fake drugs, including Covid-19 medicines, used in emergency from Cuttack, Bargarh and Balangir.

Spurious Favipiravir tablets were seized from a chemist shop at Cuttack’s Kanika Chhak. On Sunday, a joint raid was conducted in almost 14 districts and fake drugs were seized from nine districts. It is learnt that the Maharashtra Government’s Food and Drugs Administration had given a tipoff that spurious Favipiravir tablets (Favimax-400) were allegedly manufactured by Max Relief Health Care, Solan, Himachal Pradesh which is nonexistent now.

 These drugs were purchased by Medilloyd Medicament Private Limited in Cuttack. During the course of investigation, it was found that not only Favipiravir, the Drug Control Squad also found that nine other drugs allegedly manufactured by Max Relief Health Care were purchased by the firms. These spurious drugs were supplied to different districts. The raids were conducted in Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Balangir, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Bhubaneswar and other places.
