Union Minister Pratap Sarangi Addresses ICC (Odisha) Hosted National E-Conference on “The Human Resource – Post Pandemic Scenario”

BHUBANESWAR: Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Odisha organized the e-conference on “The HumanResource ( HR) – Post Pandemic Scenario” on 5th August 2020 through Virtual Platform.The Chief Guest of the program was the Pratap Chandra Sarangi, Union Minister of State, for MSME and Fisheries & Animal Husbandry (FAHD), Government of India, Bijay Kumar Patnaik, IAS, Former Chief Secretary, Government of Odisha and Sridhar Patra, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, NALCO.

The eminent panelists comprising of Bimal Rath, Founder, Think Talent India Services ,A Thiru, Former President & Global CHRO, JK Organization & Vedanta Resources , Dilip Pattanayak, President & CHRO, Steel & Corporate, JSW Steel Limited, R S Mahapatro, Director-HR, NALCO, Rahul Taneja, Group Director – HR, Jindal Steel and Power Ltd(JSPL),Dr. Santanu Rath, Ex Director-Personnel, Odisha Mining Corporation Ltd , J K Khuntia, Head – HR, Paradeep Phosphates Ltd &  Arun Bhatt, HR & Communication Specialist ,

On behalf of Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) M C Thomas, Chairman, J B Pany, Co-Chairmanand Mr Sanjay Pattnaik, Convenor, HR & IR Committee of ICC Odisha State Council participated in the programme.

The deliberation focused on variety of intricate issues pertaining how the organizations, the leadership and the HR leaders should take actions not only just to overcome the catastrophiceffect of the covid 19 pandemic but also deliberated on the strategy and preparedness to face similar catastrophes in future.

Pratap Chandra Sarangi, Minister enlightened the audience with bright examples from the history and the mythology about how we have faced the situations in the past and have the learning’s from there. He emphasized that the authentic human character should be nurtured and re-cultivated among the people. Re-skilling, devotion, discipline is a must to survive and compete in this world.

 B K Patnaik emphasized on effective communication. He said the companies should be willing to listen to their employees and their ideas. Because most of the creative ideas many a times come from the junior most employees. Employees must be respected by the company as human being and not as resources. That should be the true character of the organizations.

Sridhar Patra said that Odisha has faced super cyclones. Through experience it has developed its preparedness and planning and today we have ensured that there is no casualty even if we face cyclones every year. Therefore learning out of the situation is important to combat the calamities effectively. He said that the HR Team must identify the issues on sector specific basis and deploy the principles of 3R to address the problem. Read and realize the problem, Recognize the talent who is competent & Reorient the business if required.

Workforce strategies in the recovery phase will be best orchestrated through five critical actions: reflect, recommit, re-engage, rethink, and reboot. These actions can help organizations to bridge the crisis response to the new normal by laying the foundation to thrive in the aftermath of the crisis.

The eminent panelists were provided an overview of the forces of change that are driving the evolution of work, workforces, and workplaces, and offer a perspective on how organizations should begin to respond to the new challenges unfolding. Organizations today appear to have an unprecedented window of opportunity to shape what ultimately becomes the future of work.

Post COVID-19, organizations will continue their focus on employee safety and their emotional well-being. HR teams will expand their involvement in the lives of employees and ensure enhanced people connect.

How Organizations have long thought of talent management as how to approach attracting,developing, and retaining top talent. As new, alternative work arrangements come on the scene,How organizations should zoom out19 and imagine the possibilities so that they can compose work, the workforce, and the workplace in a way that increases both value and meaning while taking advantage of the opportunities for efficiency we have at hand.
