Modi govt celebrates second anniversary at India Gate

A bevy of Bollywood stars descended upon India Gate on Saturday to partake in a star studded gala event – Ek Nayi Subah – to celebrate the completion of two years of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government at the Centre.

The mega event began at 5 pm on Saturday with superstar Amitabh Bachchan hosting a segment of government’s ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ campaign.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with his ministerial colleagues and alliance party leaders are participating in the ceremony that includes talk show – question an danswer with ministers – on the government’s achievements, interspersed with cultural programmes.

PM Modi will also launch a series of events to highlight his government’s achievements.

The five-hour long show is being telecast live on Doordarshan as well as All India Radio, which is broadcasting the programme live on its Rajdhani and FM Rainbow channels.

The Narendra Modi government on May 26 completed two years in power at the Centre. The BJP stormed to power to form the Union government in May 2014 with a clear majority by bagging 282 seats, giving the NDA an unexpected 336 seats.

A tight security cover has been put in place for the high profile event and Rajpath as well as a few other roads near India Gate will be closed for traffic due to VIP movement that is expected to take place an hour before and after the programme.
